About the Event

Ivan was born in Argentina and from an early age he had a fascination with woodworking and tools. One of his biggest influences was his grandfather who had a workshop where he spent a lot time tinkering. Growing up he always found himself building and repairing anything he could get his hands on. After moving to the U.S. in 2000, Ivan took an interest in music and began his musical studies. He earned a Bachelor’s degree in guitar performance from Texas A&M and a Master’s degree in guitar performance from Southern Methodist University. Ivan’s experience in both woodworking and music gave him a unique insight into lutherie.

In 2017, after completing a number of guitars, Ivan took a break from building for about two years and concentrated on repairing guitars of all kinds. This gave him an insight into some design flaws and weaknesses that some guitars have throughout their lifetime. Each guitar is perfected in all of the details with hand selected materials of highest quality, which make each guitar unique and one of a kind.

 Building Philosophy

My building philosophy is a culmination of my background in both music and woodworking. I focus on the acoustic, functional, structural and aesthetic aspects of my guitars. The functional aspect of any guitar is its play-ability, this goes beyond having a low action. The structure of my guitars is designed to achieve an instrument that will be easy and comfortable to play. The sound quality is best described by a proud owner of a Scafati guitar “It has a total richness of sound, combined with clarity, evenness across strings, separation of voices, a wide array of timbres, and volume level that all help it sing.” When building a custom guitar, I like to work with my client to help customize the aesthetics of the instrument to their preference.
